We have a new respite care volunteer program for patients and their families. Many of our staff would like to participate. Do you require your paid staff to wear a volunteer uniform? And, are these staff also required to join your Auxiliary(if you have one.)

Staff who volunteer can't volunteer in the same area or in a similar task.  This could get into a wage and hour issue. Staff do have to be in the volunteer uniform and wearing a volunteer name badge.

We also require that staff volunteers serve in a different department than they work. I require them to adhere to the same dress code as our volunteers. I wouldn't want volunteers to feel slighted for having to purchase a uniform and not employees.

Staff may volunteer but not in their areas. They must wear the volunteer uniform and badge. They cannot be involved in patitent care. Most staff members volunteer at out "free clinics." And we encourage them to become Auxliary members.
