Does anyone provide scholarships to junior volunteers that can share their process or policy?

    Hi,

We award 2 $1000 scholarships to 2 seniors who will be attending college in the Fall that participate in our Candy Striper program.  The scholarships are provided by our Auxiliary, and we have a very simple application that the students complete.  Completed applications are reviewed by the Auxiliary Board of Directors and they select the recipients.

Our Auxiliary does not offer any scholarships but our state auxiliary does and our Junior Volunteers can apply for that one. They have to be a senior in high school, have a minimum of 75 hours of service, a minimum GPA of 3.0, pursuing a career in a health field of an accredited institution, provide letters of recommendation from his/her DVS or Jr. Volunteer Coordinator, a teacher and his/her guidance counselor and they must submit a 400-500 word essay entitled, "How My Junior Volunteering Experience Influenced My Decision to Enter the Health Field".

2 of our auxiliaries offer scholarships.  One offers an 8,000 dollar award (2k a year for 4 years - must go into a medical field), the other auxiliary offers 4,000 dollar award (1k a year for 4 years - must be a career you would find in a medical center). Both Auxiliaries will give more if their applicants are stellar. This year One awarded the 8k and then 4 students got 4k each. The other Auxiliary awards 2 of their 4k scholarships. I have attached our brochure that goes over some of the information. There is a separate application and interview process .

We offer $2,000 scholarships in the following categories, and draw names out of a hat to select the recipients (super simple):

      2 children/grandchildren of employees

      2 children/grandchildren of volunteers

      4 junior volunteers

      3 college volunteers

Attached is a sample of our application.

We provide one $2500 scholarship each year to a teen volunteer who has met the following criteria:

    • Must be a rising high school senior or rising college freshman
    • Must have volunteered for at least 2 of the 4 eligible summers
    • Must have volunteered a minimum of 150 hours
    • Positive comments/feedback received from the department(s) in which they volunteered
The scholarship is paid as follows:
    • The scholarship shall be paid directly to an accredited educational institution and shall be used for undergraduate studies only.
    • The recipient’s major and/or intended career should be in a field, either clinical or non-clinical, that could support a healthcare organization such as AnMed.
    • The recipient must provide a copy of their acceptance letter from the college/technical school they will be attending.
    • If the teen volunteer selected as the recipient does not matriculate, the scholarship will be awarded to the next volunteer in line who meets the criteria.
Because the criteria are pretty clear-cut, I've been able to easily identify the recipient. If there were multiple students meeting the criteria the Auxiliary Board would be involved in making the decision since they are the ones funding the scholarship.
