Our volunteers are starting a golf cart service for transporting hospital customers from the parking garage to front door and vice versa.  I would appreciate any feed back on what has worked and not worked for your hospital.  Specific concerns include qualifications of the volunteer drivers, recruitment of drivers, insurance and maintenance, service descriptions and policy. Thankyou so much. Sharon Green, SRMC Gallatin, TN

We have 3 courtesy vans driven by paid employees under security.  they transport employees, visitors etc and in constant demand.  A cart service would be great inside the hospital but we do not have one.  wishful thinking.

We also have a shuttle service.  We use a 6-passenger club car with paid employees.  Initially we tried doing the service with volunteers but found it was hard to staff when the weather turned bad or cold.   The employees are through Volunteer Services and are under the hospital insurance.  We run the service Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. with 3 gentleman that are PRN employees.

I am curious...how large is each hospital that gave input on this question (bed size)?  Also, do you have stations in the parking lot i.e. signs that read transport service station?  What times is this service staffed?

    Thank you:)
