I started a new process for group interviews this year. I only use this for my teen program right now. Any teen who has a completed application (application, immunizations, medical release, and school counselor recommendation form) on file by the application process is granted an interview.
I have over 100 teens to interview this month. I have 4 nights of interviews scheduled. Time slots are 5 p.m., 6 p.m. 6:45 and 7:30, 6 students per time slot. The interviews take about 30 minutes and it gives me a few minutes in between interviews to make notes and set up for the next group. I actually divide the teens into groups of 2 and have them interview each other. I give them a standard set of questions and give them 10 minutes to complete the interview. They then report out and introduce their partner to the group. This shows me time management, ability to follow directions, communication skills, leadership skills and personality.
I have loved this process so far. The teens give honest answers, seem to be more engaged and less nervous, and they like getting to know one another.
