This is to solicit your help in revising our chaplaincy program.  If you are responsible for your organization's chaplaincy program I would love to hear from you.  Any information (policy & procedures, overview of your program or any other related information will be helpful).

    Thanking you in advance.

    Linda,

We take them through volunteer orientation procedures as with any volunteer.  Then they are turned over to the Director of Pastoral Care to train and decide if that is an appropriate role for them.  We have 3 full time paid chaplains, but also guarantee 24/7 coverage so we do rely heavily on volunteers to fill this need.  Also every newly admitted patient receives a pastoral care visit within 24 hours of their admission.  I don't know about the requirements, references, qualifications - that is really at the discretion of the Director of PC.  Email me if I can be of any further help.

My situation is just like Patty's.  I orient the new volunteer chaplains and then they are placed under our staff chaplain.  He does annual education and training with them.

Volunteer services does all the necessary paperwork for the Chaplain's Department with the exception of the references.  The chaplain volunteers use the volunteer sign in system and come to all the volunteer events; but, they ultimately report to the director of chaplain services.  I keep them updated on any documentation that may be missing and leave it up to the director of chaplain services to follow up.
