Happy Wednesday of National Volunteer Week!  Do you know what is the only group in health care that is never recognized?  Volunteer Professionals - during all the other weeks/days the professionals are recognized--nurses, lab techs, therapists, etc.  During volunteer week we are recognizing our volunteers.

Several years ago in an informal discussion at our state meeting in Alabama we decided to recognize the volunteer professionals on Wednesday of volunteer week.  So I wanted to share this information with you and thank you for all you do for healthcare in the southeast.

May I also suggest that SDVSHO adopt Wednesday of National Volunteer Week as Volunteer Professionals in Healthcare Recognition Day?

So take a minute today to pat yourself on the back for a job well done!

While I think this is a great idea, afterall, recognition for us is in turn recognition for our programs and our volunteers, there is already a movement underway to promote some appreciation for volunteer leaders.

    See: http://www.volunteermanagersday.org/

It's November 5th and it's not well known yet, but seems to get more attention each year.
