We are considering implementing "volunteer of the quarter" here at Pelham Medical Center, Greer, SC. If you do this type of recognition in your program would you share the criteria used to determine what volunteer gets the recognition? Thanks in advance! Charlene

I do not do a volunteer of the month or year.

    Thanks,

    Patty

At our annual Volunteer Service Awards Banquet, we recognize a Volunteer Service Champion.  This will be our 4th year for this program.  Here is the criteria we put on a form and send to our Management Team.  We also allow our Auxiliary Board members to submit nominations.  Many of the Aux. Board are service area chairmen.  The volunteer is presented with a special pin and also an engraved clock.  It has worked so far for us and no one knows who the person is until it is announced at the banquet that evening.  It is very exciting for the recipient and very humbling!

Volunteer Service Champion of the Year Nomination Form

Purpose:  To recognize a volunteer who displays behaviors and achieves results that help MRMC achieve its Mission, Vision and Values.

Process:   Any member of management team or any hospital employee may nominate an active volunteer.  Below, please state why you are nominating this volunteer and include examples of how the volunteer demonstrates excellent customer service, or shows their commitment and dedication to our Mission, Vision and Values.

About 4 years ago we did away with all awards.  Sort of like a beauty pageant, make one person happy and all the rest not so much.  We now only recognize milestones of service.  Using Volgistics, the staff is aware when each person reaches a milestone, 100 hours, 250, 500, 1,000, 1,500 etc.  The staff personally thanks the volunteer.  Once the volunteer reaches 500 hours or the next step, then the Chief Human Resources Officer writes a personal letter to thank the volunteer for that level of service.  Also the staff knows and often the service area as well.

Surprise parties have been thrown for the volunteer in the service area to recognize achievement, etc.

Also we do not give out pins for service nor do we recognize years of service.
