Patricia Wright asked this question back in 2011, but I would like to ask again since we all know how things change: Can you tell me how local newspaper delivery is handled in your hospital?  Is it just sold in your gift shop?  In a rack somewhere?  Is it delivered to patients on each unit?  Do you provide them in all the waiting rooms?  And who delivers and pays for them?  Independent contractor or other?  Any and all information you can provide is helpful.  Thank you in advance.

We have a newspaper box that is owned and operated by the newspaper, located in our front lobbies.  In addition to that, our volunteer guild purchases 200 newspapers daily.  A volunteer comes in each day and delivers around the hospital....leaving them in waiting rooms, and going room to room for patients.  Recently, the hand hygiene standard came in to question.  My infection control people are trying to think through this, but in the meantime our volunteers have stopped going room to room and are now leaving newspapers at the nurses station.

Our system is similar to Jamine's.  We have racks outside the main entrance and entrance to the Medical building. They are also available in the gift shop.  We do NOT deliver to patient rooms any longer or to nurses stations for inpatients. We leave a few at various waiting rooms throughout the buildings.

    Hope this helps.
