Do you have Pathfinder or Wayfinder Volunteers and do you have difficulty recruiting for this position?  Also, do these volunteers have a home base where they can work on other tasks when not needed or do they roam the halls.  Do they carry a phone?  Do you assisgn Junior Volunteers to this position?  Are you doing anything not mentioned that may help me with our Pathfinder position?  Thanks for your help!

I find it difficult to find all the volunteers I need for any position!  Especially Wayfinders since it is mostly a weekday 9-5 assignment.  Yes, we do use teen volunteers in these positions.  I have front door greeters, who have a podium.  They stay at the podium to answer questions unless they are escorting someone.  I also have volunteers in Admitting and some waiting area.

We do have two wayfinders  and do not have no problems getting volunteers to work. We do give them an phone so they can call the information desk or volunteers office  so the guest will not have to walk to the mail lobby to get a room # they also have an maps and a physician’s directory. We have a small podium on wheels so when they’re  not there it is not in the way. I do not allow youth volunteers in this role because they are not familiar with the hospital to give directions. I require this area to have one year experience.
