Reporting Volunteer Board/leadership hours

Do other hospitals give extra volunteer hours to board members in leadership roles? We have always given hours to the Executive Board members of our Auxiliary and our Gift Shop to account for the hours of work they perform on behalf of the hospital from home. My leadership has asked if this is a regular practice for other hospitals as we well. If other hospitals do give credits, how do you distribute those hours.

    Thanks!

We give hours for board officers, they & the board members record the hours they attend board meetings, etc., but we also give bonus hours for serving as an officer on the board per year.  The president gets 225 hours, pres-elect 150, secretary & treasurer 100, parliamentarian, immediate past president & department chairs get 50 hours.

Auxiliary members and Board members track hours as our "regualr" volunteers do.  If the board member volunteers on a project from home or elsewhere those hours are tracked and calculated.

I am affaird you will not get a standard answer, some track actual hours and some give additional hours for varrious reasons i.e. officers, years of service, etc.

Benchmarking is becoming a standard in heathcare and yes, volunteer departments are held to those standards as well.  It does become difficult when comparing apples or oranges.  I am not sure it is black and white, but when held accountable for "benchmarking" market standards you do not get a true picture.

Any time volunteers contribute to our facility outside the hospital is added to our database when reported.  The volunteers are on the honor system.  I do have a few virtual volunteers who report their time quarterly or there abouts.

I give extra hours to my volunteer advisory board for meetings.  All volunteers who participate in outside volunteer efforts are also given extra hours.

We also give credit for meetings on campus, off campus meetings and hours worked on projects at home. I'm paid when I attend meetings, etc. So we decided it was only fair to do it this way. They are responsible for documenting their hours. I answer to the HR VP, and he agreed with me.

Our Auxiliary Board members each receive 50 hours annually for serving on the board.  We give them hours for attending the monthly board meetings also.
