Hospice Volunteers

    Do any of you have responsibility for hospice volunteers? If so how long is your orientation? Is it similar in length to your volunteer orientation? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

    Carla, our Hospice volunteers are supervised by the Hospice department. 20+ years ago, combining the hospital program with those volunteers was discussed, but it was decided that they were too different to be supervised by the same area. I'm actually a hospice volunteer and when I went through orientation 18 years ago, it was a 2-3 day program.

    Thanks for the info! I am curious to know how many hospitals out there have combined them. If any of you have combined hospice and volunteer services please let me know as soon as you can. Thanks!

    I have just been given the responsibilities of Hospice Volunteers as well as Auxiliary volunteers and they are completely different.  The decision was made at our hospital to eliminate duplicate positions.   I would appreciate any advice or policies you could share.  Thank you!

    My responsibility includes volunteer administration in all departments of the hospital.  However, because of their uniqueness, our hospice volunteers are recruited, oriented and managed by a separate hospice volunteer coordinator.  I try to include our hospice volunteers in every event, mailing, invitation, etc. that the hospital volunteers are a part of.    Sharon Green, Sumner Regional Med'l Ct.
