I need suggestions for recruiting volunteers for Information Desk from 4-8 p.m. If you have late afternoon success with your volunteer program, please share info with me. I think I have seen in topics before where you might have a problem recruiting for this time frame, but could not find information in past topics.

I am in a college town so most of my college student volunteers come in after 4p or on weekends.  I really dont have any adult volunteers that come in late.

I have a few who prefer that time - a retired minister, a retired teacher, and a widower.  I could use a few more for evenings and weekends as well.

Our last volunteer leaves about 1:30 in the morning and our first volunteer arrives at 5:30AM.  What you might try is adjusting your schedule somewhat so that those who work 8-5 can come from work and volunteer.  Some of the early morning volunteers come on their way to work.

The large majority of our adult volunteers hold a full time job. You have to be flexible and creative in scheduling but they are willing to volunteer as well--and we do require a three hour block of time.  I might tell you that our average age of our volunteers is 30.

Certainly college students are a good recruitment pool for after 3 positions.

We've had success with staffing the info desk after 4 p.m. with volunteers who are employed. They leave their jobs and come straight to the hospital. I also have some volunteers who help with evening bingo in the rehab. They're also employed. It's a good fit for those who want to help, but are unable to do so from 8-4 due to work.
